I’m a Mother of Daughters, an Ayurvedic Bodyworker, a Birth Attendant, and a Weaver of Modern Herbalism + Ayurvedic Wisdom.
My journey in woking with herbs and alternative ways of healing began when I was a child. I was always attracted to learning and using the plants that were around me in the Boreal region of where I was raised in Newfoundland, Canada. I would dig up dandelion roots, pick yarrow, grind up plantain weed leaves and spend hours roaming the forest. I found a book in my mothers encyclopedia collection on natural herbal healing and I was hooked. My great-grandmother was the local community midwife and I feel that a lot of her wisdom has travelled through my bloodline.
Most of my formal studies has come from trainings in the Indian holistic system of Ayurveda but it was during my first pregnancy 15 years ago that I chose this path of working with prenatal and postnatal women, learning from the likes of Ina May, Dr. Sarah Buckley, and Jeannine Parvati Baker, later choosing Holistic Midwifery mentorships with some of the most experienced traditional midwives I could seek. The traditional healing practices of India, China, Japan and Mexico are deeply ingrained in my work. Folk herbalism is a huge part of my practice and I have and continue to mentor with incredible master herbalists that I choose very carefully.
Living in Japan for my first birth and postpartum time allowed me to experience firsthand some of their traditional ways of care. From massage and acupressure at prenatal appointments that happen in my own home to a deep honouring of the 40 days of rest following birth. Using herbs, nutrient dense foods and bodywork I learned the innate keys to nourishing my body in pregnancy and postpartum.
I have held space for women in multiple capacities for the last 12 years through attending homebirth, teaching Ayurvedic yoga and lifestyle workshops, facilitating women’s circles and retreats and providing hands-on healing in the form of bodywork and energy medicine. I spent years running a photography business capturing the portraits of everyday motherhood. I later co-founded a retreat centre where we held various forms of ceremonial offerings that allowed me to connect deeper to what it means to hold space for transformation.
I am a trained practitioner of various modalities of healing including wise woman herbalism, ayurvedic massage, various forms of energy work. I integrate these aspects of care into everything I do.
